Uploading photos to your web album using email Google Picasa

Google offers storage space with Picasa Web for online photo albums. For example, you can give your relatives, friends and acquaintances a virtual look at your vacation photos. However, the annoying part is the uploading of pictures: you need to log in to use this service.

Usually, pictures can only be displayed in the web album by uploading them or through the program Picasa. Another option is to simply send the pictures to the web album in an email.

Activating email uploads: The email upload function must be activated. Log in to Picasa with your Google email address and your password and then click on the link ‘Settings’ at the top right corner in the next page. In the ‘Upload photos via email’ field, check the option ‘Photos can be uploaded via email’. This is followed by a field to enter a secret word. This must be between six and 15 characters. From there and from the Google mail address, Picasa forms a new email address as per the format
‘.(Secret_Word>@ picasaweb.com’. For example, if you logged on using the email address ‘francis@gmail.com’ and entered a secret word ‘chipindia’, then the email address for uploading would be ‘francis. chipindia@picasaweb.com’. Save the settings when this is done.

Sending photos via email: A message to the new email address with photos attached is now enough. To load the pictures in a specific album, enter its exact name in the subject line. Otherwise Picasa stores them in the ‘Drop box album’. You can also share the address with friends and family, so that they too can upload photos directly. However, be careful about whom you trust with this address: you are responsible for the contents of the albums.

Moving the pictures from the drop box: The pictures in the ‘Drop box’ can be moved to your actual web albums. To do that, log in to Picasa again. Click on the tab ‘My Pictures’ and open the ‘Drop Box’. On the next page, Picasa shows all the photos in it. Select ‘Edit | Organize and Reorder’. On the following page, select the desired pictures by keeping [Ctrl] pressed and clicking on each of them one after the other. After that, you can ‘Move’ the selected pictures. To transfer them to a completely new album, name the album in the ‘Title’ field. Besides, you can also add a date, a description as well as the place where the picture was clicked. As a small bonus, Picasa marks the entered place on a small map. Select ‘Not public’, if you want to share that album with only selected people. Finally, click on the button ‘Next’, to create the album and to move the pictures. If you want to store the pictures in an existing album, click ‘Select an existing album’. Then select the one you want and click on ‘Select album’, to store the pictures in it.
