Many tables contain positive and negative values. In addition to the automatically displayed minus sign, you also want the plus sign to be displayed for easier viewing.
You can enforce the display of positive signs using number formats. Since there is no suitable preset, you will have to make one yourself.
Select the relevant cells and click on ‘Format | Cells’.
Click the ‘Custom’ category in the ‘Number’ tab.
Change the contents of the ‘Type’ input field to ‘+0;-0;0’. Now confirm the setting with ‘OK’. This format code uses separate format settings, separated by a semi colon, for positive and negative numbers as well as for blank values. Use the third component without signs as well so that Excel places the correct sign even when rounding up a number. In general, you can use any number format instead of the default ones. You have to then define it twice with the respective sign and replace it with zero. Moreover, with a code such as ‘+0;-0;_ Null_’, it is also possible to replace blank values with text.
