The details view of Windows Explorer shows the file sizes in a folder. However, the tool does not say anything about the space requirements of its subdirectories. Thus, you cannot estimate the total space that the folder occupies.
You can use the application ‘Folder Size 2.4’ in order to add the option to display the folder size. You can download it from the website foldersize. sourceforge.net. If Internet Explorer initially blocks the file download, click the message on the upper window edge and select 'Download file’ in the following menu. Save the ‘FolderSize2.4.msi’ file in any folder. To install, double-click the entry in Windows Explorer and confi rm the following warning with ‘Run’. Then follow the instructions of the setup. Close all Windows Explorer windows after that and then open a new window from the start menu or with [Win] + [E]. Activate the details view using ‘View | Details’. Right-click the column headings and activate the ‘Folder size’ option in the context menu. Windows Explorer now displays the desired information in a new column. The add-on takes a few seconds to find out the information. In this time, it temporarily shows a plus sign where the values will appear. Note: In addition to the folder size, you can also see the ‘Number of folders’, ‘Number of files’ or the ‘Number of objects’ in general. All this information not only refers to the subfolder level but also to the complete directory structure within each selected folder respectively.
